Mediterranean Diet Recipes
With this collection of Mediterranean diet recipes, I want to show you how easy it is to incorporate more vegetables, fruits and legumes into your diet.
Eating healthily can also be eating yummy!
What I like most about Mediterranean diet recipes are the starters and vegetable side dishes.
I usually make up a lot of the side dishes and freeze in portion sizes, so when I’m busy I always have a healthy and yummy meal ready at any time.
Sometimes instead of cooking a "proper" meal I just have various starters with a glass of wine.
With easy planning you don’t have to sacrifice your own weight loss regime, even if the rest of the family wants something else.
Starters
Hummus Recipe - Chickpea Dip Hummus is a great snack, especially if you dip raw vegetables and not bread or chips. The basic ingredient is chickpeas, an excellent source of protein, dietary fibers and healthy carbohydrates.
Tzatziki Recipe – Yoghurt, Cucumber and Garlic Dip This is an easy-to-make tzatziki recipe for a Greek traditional appetizer that can also be left on the table to accompany your main course. One of my Greek favorites!
Tzatziki Recipe with Mint This tzatziki recipe with mint is a delicious variation of the traditional tzatziki. Serve as a dip for pieces of different raw vegetables or whole wheat bread. Or try it as a cool, refreshing sauce to accompany your grilled meat.
Side dishes with vegetables
Greek Spinach Pie Recipe with Cheese – Spanakotiropita This is a spinach pie recipe with cheese for an excellent snack or starter, even suitable to take to the office.
Baked Vegetables - Briam You can enjoy this dish warm straight from the oven, lukewarm and even also cold as a salad. Serve it as a side dish to grilled meat or as a main course with some feta cheese and a piece of whole-wheat bread.
Green Bean Recipe Greek Style - Fasolakia Me Lathi A yummy side dish to both meat and fish that you can make with either fresh (best) or frozen (fastest) beans.
Salads
Greek Salad Recipe - Horiatiki A delicious combination of juicy tomatoes, cucumber, sliced red onion, lettuce, crumbly Feta cheese and large Kalamata olives, with extra virgin olive oil sprinkled on the top, that is hard to resist.
Easy Mediterranean Cooking Tips
Make Your Own Strained Yogurt If you can’t find the thick, strained yogurt used in Greek cooking at your local grocery store, it’s very easy to make your own. It's best to use low-fat, or even non-fat yogurt.
Even though you’ll easily find recipes on line, I personally still like to browse through a good cookbook, especially one with lots of inspiring pictures. Some of my favorite cookbooks are with the Mediterranean diet recipes.
