Me and My Site

Hi!

My name is Eva. I moved from Sweden 20 years ago to the island of Corfu in Greece, where I now live with my two wonderful teenage children (well my daughter is in her first year at the University of Macedonia in Thessaloniki, Northern Greece).

What made me start a website on weight loss?

I have always been pretty slim, but life as a single mother in Greece is very different from the life I had as a student living on my own in Sweden.

As most women I put on weight during my pregnancies, most of it came off. Some periods of my life it has been easy to maintain my weight, but during other periods I have put on weight and really had to struggle to get it off.

I eat healthily and I am a pretty active person. I follow new discoveries on nutrition and exercise. What annoys me though, is that when it comes to weight loss, it’s still "Eat less, Exercise more". The only thing that has changed over time is what you are supposed to eat, and how you should exercise.

If you have every felt that big hole in your stomach that doesn’t seem to fill up no matter how much you eat, you know that losing weight is about so much more than “Eat less, Exercise more”. It is also so much about why you eat too much or exercise too little.

During my years in Greece I have been working a lot with personal development, both as part of my network marketing business I had when my children where small and later as a co-planner and creator of personal development seminars.

As I struggled to lose and maintain my weight, I decided to apply my knowledge on how to reach your goals, and overcoming obstacles on weight loss. I first tried it out on myself, and it turned out well.

I had realized with my network marketing business that I was quite good at inspiring and supporting other people. That was the part I liked. (I’m terrible at sales.)

As my children grew older I was able to work proper hours. (When my children were small I had to arrange my working hours around them and work whenever they were at school or I could take them with me.) The idea to combine my knowledge and experience with my interest in healthy living went through my head and so I started a weight coaching practice.

I didn’t expect what I came in contact with. I met beautiful women putting their life on hold just because they weren’t slim enough. Everything was supposed to happen after they lost that extra weight. They were beating themselves up, and denying themselves joy just because they didn’t like what they saw in the mirror.

Some of my clients had severe health issues and still something stopped them from dealing with the problem.

The “Eat less, Exercise more” approach did them no good.

After a lot of research and my own failed attempts I now have a different approach to weight loss. It was difficult to explain to my clients exactly how I could help them, since they were used to the common approach to weight loss.

I needed a way to put my ideas out there and creating a website seemed like a good way. (I even got an invitation to participate in an EU Study on weight loss thanks to my site.)

I’m not a webmaster and I couldn’t afford to pay someone to do it for me. I came across this site building company, SBI! (Site Build It!) and I saw so many different kinds of people doing wonderful sites with the help of SBI!, and I felt that I could do it too even though English is not my native language. And the SBI! also gave a money back guarantee.

Joining the SBI! was a better move than I would have imagined.

How starting a website turned out to be a terrific move

My weight coaching practice started and was slowly growing. My only worry was that I seemed to be so tired all the time. I thought that maybe I was just burned out from being a single mom for so many years and that it would improve over time. When I started aching for days each time I went to the gym and it didn’t improve no matter what I did, I know something else must be wrong. I wasn’t just being unfit.

The answer came in the summer of 2008 when I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia. It’s an “invisible” disease, which makes you feel like you overdid it at the gym and have the flu, both at the same time. You are constantly tired and your body is aching. It also gives you this awful “fibro fog” from time to time, which makes it difficult to focus.

After passing an awful winter I just want you to know that now, a year later, I’m much better. (Click here to read on how I now handle my fibromyalgia. It may help you if you or someone dear to you suffers from this disease. There are a lot you can do beside from taking the doctor's medication.)

When I started creating this website I saw it mainly as a compliment to my coaching practice. My fibromyalgia had me see things differently. As I decided to stop seeing clients to learn how to handle things, I had to look for other means of income and I realized that the actual website could be a source of income and that without me having nor a product nor service to sell. (I may sell my coaching services in the future, but for now my help and support are still Free.)

This opened new possibilities for me and I’m not sure anymore if I will take up my local coaching practice again. The thing is that I have no idea where I will be in a couple of years. My children will have left home and I will be on my own. I miss seeing my clients, but on the other hand having a business that I can take with me wherever I go is amazing. What an incredible freedom!

As long as I have my computer I can still run my business! So here I am now, not totally recovered from my fibromyalgia, but much better and I have a growing business, doing what I love; a business that allows me to decide my own hours and that I can do wherever I may be in the world.

You are more than welcome to contact me with your questions or just share your ideas on weight loss. I’m happy to help and support you.

With you on the weigh,
Eva Makris
