Benefits of
Homemade Fruit Smoothies

There are so many health benefits of homemade fruit smoothies compared to the shop-bought ones, that there is basically no reason why you shouldn’t start making your own instead of buying them ready-made.

Homemade smoothies are made of fresh fruit which makes you feel you are drinking something healthy and good for you, and you are!

Shop-bought smoothies can be made from fresh fruit, but they are often pasteurized to last longer. This means many of the nutrients are gone, and high amounts of processed sugar are often added. Not really what you're looking for.

Sometimes, if it’s really bad, you can come across "fruit" smoothies that are not even made with fresh fruit. Artificial flavor has been used to give the smoothie a fruity taste.

Calorie control

It’s easier for you to control the amount of calories in your smoothie when you make it yourself, by choosing the fruits with the lowest calorie content. You can use low-fat yogurt or milk or even water if you want to keep your smoothie really low-calorie.

Wallet control

And of course, your homemade fruit smoothies is so much cheaper than shop-bought ones. If you make it with fresh seasonal fruit or frozen fruit, you get the best value for your money.

Is time a problem?

The only downside to homemade smoothies is that you have to do the cutting, blending and washing-up. It can take some time, but if you choose easy-to-wash up smoothie blenders, it’s not that time consuming.


Personally I think that the benefits of homemade smoothies are so many that it’s worth the extra time to make them instead of just grabbing one from the shelf in the grocery store. And homemade tastes so much better!
