Fruit Calories

How to Get the Best Value for Your Calories

Free tips on how fruit calories will get you the best value for your calories and lose weight faster.

Cutting down on calories is not enough for a healthy weight loss.

You still need to supply your body with all the necessary micronutrients so you don't end up feeling tired and with deficiency diseases because of malnutrition.

Your body needs both so called macronutrients (the ones we need a lot of such as carbohydrates, fat, protein and water) and micronutrients (the ones needed in smaller amounts such as vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and amino acids).

As a successful weight loss requires of you to consume fewer calories than you burn it's vital to get as many micronutrients per calorie as possible.

Getting a lot of calories from fat or carbohydrates is very easy. The important is to not forget the vitamins, minerals, antioxidants etc.

The nutritional value of fruit is excellent! You'll get a high amount of minerals and vitamins in fruit. Unfortunately it contains a lot of sugar and can cause sugar cravings if eaten the wrong way.

The brain feeds on sugar and we are programmed to like sweet foods. In the modern world sweets are easily accessible and you risk ending up eating sweets without getting the necessary micronutrients.

Empty Calories

I’m sure you are familiar with the term "empty calories". An empty calorie has the same energy content as any other calorie; with the difference that energy is basically all you get.

An empty calorie is not accompanied with any micronutrients (or at least very few). You'll find them in sweets, cookies, candy, ice cream, soft drink and jelly. (I could make the list of foods with added sugar longer, but you get the point.)

These foods will satisfy your sweet tooth, but not your body.

In the long run you will feel you lack energy, despite the high energy content of the "food" you just ate. The calories/energy that doesn't make you feel energized is the energy that piles up around your waist, on your thighs etc.

If you compare the nutrition facts of for example cookies to any fruit nutrition facts you’ll see a huge difference. The nutritional value of fruit is great and will give you energy that last longer.

The easiest is to replace empty calorie foods with fruit calories; that will give your body what it needs and your sweet tooth what it's asking for. Be careful though not to eat fruit in large quantities, it may raise your blood sugar levels too much.
