Basic Smoothie Recipe

A basic smoothie recipe is really all you need.

Smoothies can be altered in endless ways and you only have to use your creativity to always be able to enjoy yummy, healthy and slimming smoothies.

This is healthy living at its best.

If you are fond of milk shakes, learn how to make delicious fruit smoothies instead and you will soon see a positive difference on the scales.

So take out your blender and get started!

What You Need

basic smoothie recipe For any smoothie you’ll need berries or chopped fruit, a thickener and liquid so everything blends smoothly.

1. Use about 1/4 of a cup of berries or chopped fruit, one or several types. Bananas are often used in smoothies, but are high in calories compared to other fruit. You could try apples, mangos or peaches instead.

2. You need about 1/2 of a cup of a thickener (depending on how thick you want your smoothie). A great choice for a thickener is low-fat or fat-free yogurt, low-fat frozen yogurt, or crushed ice. Frozen juice concentrate is not a good choice while you want to lose weight. Not only will it give you all the negative side-affects juice can have on your blood sugar levels, but you’ll also get them concentrated!

3. Finally, you need 1/4 of a cup of liquid. This will allow everything to blend smoothly. Use skim milk, soy milk, or even (flavored) water. Some recipes advice you to use fruit juice as liquid, but try to avoid that until you reach your ideal weight. Try flavored water instead.

What you do

You simply add all ingredients into you blender and blend until smooth. Yum!
Best served immediately.

This basic smoothie recipe gives you approximately 1 cup, which is a good 1 serving.

Tips

You can enhance the flavor of your smoothie by adding, for example, a sweetener, cinnamon, ginger or vanilla extract.

Some people like to add wheat germ, Vitamin C powder or ground flaxseed to their smoothies.

Smoothies are low in protein, but you can easily make them into a more balanced meal by adding a protein supplement.
