6 KEYS TO KEEPING WEIGHT OFF - PERMANENTLY!

Losing weight takes determination and staying power. And it's great, when your healthy diet and exercise regime results in a trimmer, slimmer you.

But that's only the beginning. Hands up, if you've ever shed weight, only to see that poundage creep back on.

How to Maintain Weight Loss for 10 Years - or More

It's pointless losing weight if you can't keep it off, so researchers at the National Weight Control Registry delved into the statistics of 10,000 people who'd lost a minimum of 30 pounds, and kept that weight at bay for a year or more.

Although most people do regain a little of what they've lost over time, some slimmers have the knack of maintaining a substantial weight loss for as long as a decade. Staying at a lower weight for that length of time has huge benefits for long-term health, reducing the risk of many diseases, quite apart from improving lifestyle and daily wellbeing.

So, what were these people doing, that kept them close to their target weight in the long term?

6 Keys To Maintaining Weight Loss

Here are the strategies you need, to stay slender for ever.

1. Always, always have breakfast. Here are some healthy breakfast recipes to get you started.

2. Take an hour-long walk every day, or choose other activities to burn the same number of calories. Learn more about counting calories.

3. Keep tabs on what you're eating. Be mindful about portion size, and make healthier choices on a daily basis. Ideas for healthy meals.

4. Most days, stick to a low-calorie, low-fat diet. Those who kept the weight off most successfully, ate about 1,800 calories a day, with less than 30 percent of those calories from fat.3. Keep tabs on what you're eating.

5. Keep a check on your calorie or fat grams eaten, or use a commercial weight-loss program like Weight Watchers to track food intake.

6. Don't eat out more than three times a week, and keep fast food to a minimum - less than once a week.

These are all tactics you've probably been using as you lose weight, and underlines the fact that a healthy lifestyle is a lifelong strategy to keep fit, well and at a healthy weight.
